Abstrakt

In the context of the aspired reform of the upper school system (NOST), the Austrian School Leader Conference commissioned a working group to develop concepts for a competence-oriented performance assessment in the field of Catholic Religious Education in upper secondary school. The resulting grid of competencies was tested in teaching practice by 12 teachers in the academic year 2016/17. This was scientifically evaluated by the authors of the article. The research interest of the qualitative evaluation study focuses on two aspects: on the experiences of the teachers with the assessment of competencies, as well as on the subjective perspectives and reconstructions of teachers of religion within competence-orientated performance assessment in their subject. The results provide an insight into the challenges and areas of conflict in the context of performance assessment, into the teachers' understanding of their role and their school subject, and in the way in which governance guidelines for teaching (grid of competencies) are implemented in actual teaching practice.
