Together against discrimination
At the Faculty of Catholic Theology, we place great importance on ensuring that all situations — whether in academic studies, research, or administration—are characterized by a non-discriminatory atmosphere and mutual respect.
All of us — faculty, students, researchers, and non-academic staff — share responsibility for creating a respectful, non-discriminatory environment for study and work. Discrimination and denigration based on gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, impairment and/or disability, physical appearance, age, cultural background, skin color, religious affiliation, or worldview are not tolerated at our faculty.
For example, the following are incompatible with a culture of respect:
- Comments that make use of derogatory stereotypes and are intended to belittle social groups — for example, racist, sexist, ableist, or homophobic remarks
- an inappropriate communication style, both online and offline — for example, remarks that are unwanted, inappropriate, offensive, hostile, humiliating, or intimidating, and that violate a person’s dignity
- repeated interruptions of the discussion or deliberate disruption of the course
- repeated harassment or deliberate refusal to engage
- suggestive remarks and jokes, leering glances, derogatory anecdotes, and sexist comments about the appearance, behavior, and private lives of others
- inappropriate behavior and inappropriate physical contact
These rules of conduct are binding for all faculty members — students, faculty, researchers as well as non-academic staff. Employees may be held accountable for discriminatory behavior under labor or disciplinary law; students may be subject to a ban from campus or, in cases of “persistent or serious threat,” expulsion from the university.
The Code of Conduct of the Faculty of Catholic Theology supplements the Code of Conduct of the University of Vienna and helps ensure that students, faculty, researchers, and non-academic staff can study, teach, and collaborate productively within a constructive and respectful culture of interaction.
